What Makes Platinum-Cure Silicone Different?

Short version: it’s cleaner, tougher, and dimensionally truer than tin-cure alternatives—so your candle looks sharper and your molds last longer.

Bottom line: Tin-cure can be fine for simple, low-run shapes. For Good, platinum-cure pays for itself.

Shore Hardness: Picking the Right “Softness”

Silicon

  • 10A–20A (our default band): Very flexible. Great for deep undercuts, but needs a supportive mother-mold to stay true.

  • 20A–30A: Balanced detail + durability for most sculptural candles.

  • 30A–40A: Stiffer for big, heavy pieces with flat planes; requires careful venting and seam planning.

We tune hardness to the geometry, wax type, and production cadence.

Engineering Perfect Lines (Beyond the Chemistry)

Material is step one; mold design finishes the job:

  • Seam strategy: We place seams along shadow lines so they finish quickly and disappear in normal light.

  • Registration keys: Precision keys prevent misalignment → razor-straight seams.

  • Funnel & venting: Integrated pour funnels with micro-vents purge air from tips, corners, handles, and logos.

  • Mother-mold shell: A rigid outer shell keeps the silicone in the exact shape for repeatable casts and square bases.

Surface Finish Starts With the Master

Silicone is an honest mirror. If the master is silky, the wax is silky. If it’s grainy, the wax shows grain.

  • We print high-res masters, then hand-finish: sanding, sealing, edge crisping.

  • Want soft leather grain or stone matte? We add controlled micro-textures that read beautifully in candlelight.

  • Wax temperatures: Typical soy/beeswax pour temps are well below silicone limits; platinum handles cycles with minimal fatigue.

  • Release: With clean, fully cured platinum silicone and wax, release agents are often unnecessary (we test per project).

  • Cycle planning: To hit deadlines, we balance mold count and cooling windows so geometry stays crisp and color stays true.
